Default Inside Out

This weed's blooms turn down at night, and collect dew early in the morning. After reading 70 presentations and commenting on most, I'll say little more than if you'd present this, photograph it or edit it differently, your opinion matters.

Wonderful little beads around the outside edges. What is the background? Purple flowers behind?

Wow...nice capture Jiminy! I love the balance of the Yellow with the purple/voilet spots in the background. Have you applied some sort of vignetting to the bottom of the shot?

For someone who is still learning I diffinately like the shot taken but after looking at the flower my eyes wander towards the back which makes me wonder more what is back there than the fine details on the flower.

Saralonde,

Just waiting for the guilt to pass . . . OK, after so many black backgrounds, I longed for something better in a b/g than dirt but not quite as ethereal as a Michael Brown. Composites are a challenge, so I took the Macro and blended it with an altered, blurred shot-for-color image of wild fuschias. One small addition: I put "bloom" images in some of the drops on the right. And thingy, that is a lower-quarter mask to end stem before it hits frame.

So now I'm regretting the departure from "simple black." I'm pleased from an edit standpoint, but would prefer a more natural solution.

wattsbw2004,

As this came up on thread, I wished the bloom were larger (fixing it now), and maybe that will lessen impact of b/g color.

jiminy,

I know how you feel about creating composite images. I'm currently (and hesitantly) stepping into that realm myself and I don't feel completely comfortable with it (yet?). For what it's worth, I think what you've done here is great. No guilt necessary!

In any case, about your photo:
-Great complementary colors of purple and yellow!
-Lovely water droplets...beautiful accent.
-Nice light on the bloom...bright yet not too blown out.

Suggestions:
-Looking at your bigger version, I notice that it's not totally sharp. Macros are tough to get tack sharp...is the flower still there to re-shoot?
-I find my eyes not totally pleased with the crop. I took the liberty of trying different crops on my computer and came up with this one.

Less 'creative' perhaps, but I feel like the original crop has too much space floating around, esp. top left.

Thanks for sharing and nice job!

bah! fake picture!
i was going to say the bokeh was amazing, but if that's not straight out of camera forget about it. the flower and water droplets do look great though. nice colors.

Teewinot,

Same feeling, and I miss the square:

MorningFresh2

As an image is manipulated in PhotoDeluxe, it loses a lot, and often picks up a zigzag pattern. Another reason I enjoyed the more traditional "tweaks."

mdwsta4,

And yet had I not explained what it was, you were ready to accept it. Each photo is straight out of my camera, then applied to a canvas in various ways. If your theory is clear to me, you'd have to take all the electronics out of your camera for it to record a "pure" image.

Square crop...didn't think of that. It definitely solves the problem of the open space near the top. To be honest, I now feel like your lovely flower is somehow being 'enveloped by the mist' coming up from somewhere below the frame. Did you add a vignette or is that still your original mask? Perhaps the effect is just magnified now that the crop is tighter. Just thinking out loud...
