Default Nature's little helicopter.

It was almost impossible to get this guy to stay still. When he finally did, all I had was about 5 secs to point, focus and shoot before he took off again. My only gripe with this is it's a little on the blurry side. If only he'd chill out a little more!

What do you guys think?

I can't photo shop worth a ......, but this is what I did in 5min using PSE 5 just to get an idea of what could be done. Duplicated layer, erased the background on the top layer, applied a hue/saturation adjustment layer to the bottom layer to desaturate and darken the background.

With the original image and some patience I think you could really bring the little guy out from the background.

seayeo,

Thanks for the inspiration! Will give it a little fiddle in PS.
(although I've been trying to be less dependant on PS fixing my shots )

ribkaje,

Applauding your independence. I love to edit, but totally agree the less the better. And that does make you pay more attention to the seconds before the shutter is released. Good idea.

Also, I've been told this is a damsel fly, and found one late in the day that stood still for nearly ten minutes! Early evening is a good time to be outdoors.

I like your shot. You did well just to get the shot! I tried shooting a Monarch Butterfly and it was the same deal. Running all over the place, not enough time to focus etc. Great effort and a nice shot.
