Default Crop or no Crop...

Hi, this is a photo of my wife during my honeymoon, I loved the moment captured, no pose, I was in the pool with the camera. The question is, I must to crop the photo? or keep original frame? the person is not at the center, either is not ubicated in a third rul space.

Personally the wall in the right side is bad, but there is no way to clone out.

I think, B&W photos are better for memorable moments, may be because when I see my parents pict(50's,60's,70's), all of them are in B&W, it's my personal apreciation, but the color version looks good too.

I'm thinking to print this photo in a 13x18 cm frame in a photo lab, to decorate my apartment. But I want to know your apreciation of this picture.

Hi Martin. I agree with your comments on B&W shots as well. You are a brave man to have your camera in the pool. 8-) I think with some aggressive cropping you can eliminate most of the objectionable background and have a nice photo of your wife in return. Too bad you didn't use a little flash fill or spot metering since she was positioned in front of the bright waterfall. That brightness 'tricked' your meter into underexposing the overall scene leaving the subject a bit on the dark side. Perhaps you can lighten her a bit in post processing. I am sure you will cherish whatever crop you decide on.

I think that some cropping could help out. The steps in the upper left corner drew my eye away from the great facial expression and the movement of the water.

I'd say crop it such that there's more image on the left of her face. I think it usually looks better when the subject is looking into the larger space of the image rather than out of it. If that makes any sense.

I agree with the others that cropping out the left hand site would be better. As for the wall/step on the right, i don't mind it, to me it leads the eye to your wife. That said though, if you could soften/blur it (convincingly) a little so it is slightly less demanding of the eye, this may help........maybe........possible........i think

EDIT: oopse hang on, i just reread the other posts here, and it doesn;t seem that anyone is advocating cropping the left side off, in which case i revise my post to say that i don't find the wall on the right particularly offensive as i think it draws your eye towards your wife's face. do what you will with that information
