Default Calculus Leaf

Okay, this thread involves two pictures. They're the same subject, just different orientations. I can't decide which I like more. I like the wide-format one for the color, but the portrait one seems to focus more on the curvy leaf right in the center.

Thoughts?

IMHO, Ithink that I like the wide shot better. Like you say the colour is a lot richer, although the weed/nettle on the left is a bit distracting. Whereas the vertical shot has less distraction but also less colour. You could always boost the colour a touch in whatever editing suite that you use. Nice plant though, interesting leaves. As you can see my critique as well as my photography needs a bit of work.lol.

In my very humble and uninformed opinion the second image would make a great abstract if it was cropped tight below the bottom leaf and the saturation bumped up a bit. They're lovely leaves!

I see where Penny is going with that idea. I would opt for a horizontal crop of the top third and as suggested bump up the saturation. I love the lines of the leaves, especially the curcular viens (or whatever you call them)

Okay, here's a little cropping. I went with the suggestion to crop the top leaves. I also cropped out the little blurry ones on the left, leaving me with another portrait-orientation pic. I did a little iPhoto slider twiddling... more saturation, dropped the exposure to 'darken' the greens, cooled off the temperature more, bumped up the tint towards 'green'....

Very nice work! You have turned the first two into a real work of art in the third version. I could envision this hanging in an office in a poster size print.
