Nice viewpoint with the detail in the flooring leading into the shot. I'd crop out the black blob in the lower left. He's looking out of the frame.

Yep, very nice lines from the curves to the flooring (which ironically leads to a family posing for a photo ). I agree with uvsub about the cropping too.

I know next to nothing about photography, so take this for what its worth.

I agree that the person in the bottom left on the original is a distraction. However, to me the cropped picture looks stubby in comparison to the uncropped picture. In the first picture the long expanse of deck leading to family taking photographs at the end lent a sense of grandeur that is missing for me from the cropped version.

Hmmm, I have to admit that I think seayeo is right. The deck looks much fatter now and the shot looses some of its original appeal. Maybe you can clone out the guy rather than crop?
