Hi all,

First time shooting a flame. Was lucky that it was a small flame and it was quite still. This is from my grandmums puja corner and is one form of a diya. I did some basic work on it in P'Shop (cropping, levels and some saturation). I liked the final result. What do you guys think?

Technically it is OK. It feels a little too closely cropped as shown. The flame needs a bit more room at the top. It may be better to have featured this in a shot showing more of the room or area in which it was being used. I appreciate the addition of the terms 'puja' and 'diya' as the links to their definitions helped me better understand the use of the lamp.

clockdoc: Thank you sir, for your comments! I did try to include some of the background, but it was becoming just too 'busy' and was taking away from the image instead of adding to it. Do agree with you about the cropping being too tight though. Will see if I can free it up a little! Glad to know that you went through the links! I thought it was the best way to describe what I was shooting!

Ashwinvissa - I love the colours in this and the contrast between the brass and the sticky paste adhering to it. Do agree that it is cropped too close tho', and would be nice if the flame was a little more erect? Like it very much. Thanks for the informative links!
