Default Flow

I think of everything I've taken in the last couple of weeks, this is probably my favorite (for now). I wish I could claim great technical prowess with this shot, and I think there are some little things that bug me a bit about it if I stare at it too long, but it was a lot of being in the right spot at the right time (of day).

(larger image (with EXIF info) can be viewed here)

Some of the EXIF info is missing or incorrect. There was no flash (not sure why it's registering "unknown", white balance was set to "daylight", and "exposure mode" was "Manual," not "auto".

velvet4269, Welcome

We all have at least one "lucky" shot that just happens to look great. But you had to see this and recognize a good compositional angle to get this, and that even the best camera cannot do. So credit to you for seeing well and being lucky!

This is a real nice shot. Good work.

It seems that for every decent shot I get, I take about twenty that just don’t measure up (it used to be one out of thirty).

I think it’s all about taking pictures, having fun and learning (more) along the way.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you!

And I completely understand about the multiple shots: I have 11 shots of this scene at various angles. It was very much a "play" shot - I was trying to use manual focus for the first time (the majority of photos I took that evening were manual focus), I was starting to lose the light, and it was a somewhat shaded area - and took one look at the LCD display after the first shot was taken, and went "Ooh, I like this! Let's see what else I can get!" This was the third shot.

I did have another one that's almost identical to this one, but shifted slightly down and to the left - and I'm interested how much of a difference that made in the overall mood of the picture.

I'm fortunate for the 2GB CF card in the camera - the first day I took it out, I took over 200 pictures - kept about 160 - and only posted about 12 or so in my gallery. I'm finding I'm getting pickier about the pictures I post, and even the pictures that I take (which I take as a good thing).

Love this subject. Very nice shot. To me this screams diagonal. If it was framed with the water moving diagonal or even vertical for that matter, it would amp up the excitement even more.
