I like the different textures and the contrast. Nice foreground, midground and background, too, as well as the interesting sky. Not sure if I like the dead center ball in the front. Wonder how this would look in landscape instead of portrait with the ball to one side maybe on a rule of threes point?

I agree with Saralonde. The technical aspects of the photo are very good. The light toned ball centered at the bottom is a bit too centrally placed. Try a little cropping and shift its position to see if that makes a difference. Well done on having a good eye for this sort of composition to start with.

Default pebbles etc

Cheers,
I m a liitle obsessed with the central-object-portrait-format thing. I'm finding it hard to break out of it!
Will give it a go however!

I agree with above. Thumbs up.

I did have a second idea. If you have the file size to get away with it, I wondered if the the photo might also work cropped just to include the buoy (sp?) on the surrounding pebbles. You will be limited a bit by your depth of field, but I think it could be a nice shot too -- sort of a 2 for 1.

rhysb123, Welcome

There are some subtle variations of color in that buoy that could be shown better in ELAY's suggestion (assuming landscape crop, or square). As is, anyone who likes centered subjects will love this shot. Experimention with this one will teach your eye much about composition. Enjoy it!
