Default Yelllow unknown flower

Hi! I took this photo this afternoon. This flower was on the lobby of my office. I don't know the name of the flower so if any of you know it, I'll be glad to if you post it. This was an attempt for macro photography with an AF-S 55-200 mm lens, so I don't know if is correct to use it or not. C&C are very welcome as always. Hope you enjoy it!

I think you did a nice close-up. Focus looks right and the color is good. Nice black background, too. Just think you need a slightly better specimen , but I guess you can't be picky with an office lobby flower. BTW, I think it's a daylily.

oriolhz,

Saralonde's right about looking for the best specimen to shoot, even weeds. You did make this one look pretty good, and if you find others you want to shoot, think about tilting off-center, so the petals aren't lined up with frame. Also try for more room inside frame. Or go in closer. When your subject is almost touching the edge, it looks crowded.

Lighting here is really pleasant.

Default Thanks!

Thanks Saralonde, JiminyClickit for your comments. I like to shot to flowers and this flower was a little dry too. Hope the admin of the lobby decides to get better looking flowers next week. I try to get closer to the flower but I could not get anything in focus and I try both manual and automatic. Any tip on that?
I search at wikipedia the daylily fllower and it does not have the black dots on the petals, maybe is some kind of daylily branck or variation. Lots of flowers in this world
Thanks again for letting me know your c&c!

oriolhdz,

Do you use your Macro mode? Nikons are unknown to me, so check your manual or someone with a Nikon D40 can suggest more.

Hi jiminiClickit:
Yup, I took some photos with manual mode, and some photos with macro mode and in both modes the focus was a little hard when I got closer to the flower.
That's why I thought I may use the wrong lens.
