Default A cannon pointing at no target

I thought it would be neat to be shooting just below a cannon (to create a different kind of composition) but it just didn't turn out right.... What's wrong? Maybe there is no subject in the image? What could be improved? Thanks.

A few things:

- Pink. Your white balance is pink.

- Not enough canon. I think you'd have to fix this by retaking it. if I was going to take this picture, I would probably physically touch my camera to the canon, ensuring that you see a long canon barrel and then the sea vista.

- Canon's at the top of the image. It's certainly unusual, but for some reason, I 'expect' to see the shot with the canon underneath. The foreground of the stone stuff at the bottom is boring, and the sky's pretty but there's a canon in the middle of it!

You have a nice sky to work with and a beautiful blue ocean and then this big thing sticking out at the top of your pic. I think it's mostly a matter of composition. If you took this shot standing to the side and a little above the cannon, you might have a better perspective. That way you could see more of the cannon and it would become part of the composition. It also might keep the horizon line from cutting across the middle of your shot.
I understand what you were trying to go for (an unusual perspective) and I applaud your effort.

Are you able to get on top of the cannon? A shot along its length with the camera touching it or really close (as suggested above, but on top) might give you a bit of the effect you are going for, and give more of a subject for the photo.

Thanks for the suggestions and I think the real big 'mistake' is composition, which unfortunately could not be rescued (by pp) unless I retake the photo.

If I remember correctly, I couldn't reach the top of the cannon for some reason (blocked by a fence or something / or I was too short )

Anyway, I don't think I will be able to retake the exact same cannon (as it was taken thousands of miles away from home) but I am sure I will come across similar settings in the future and I will try your suggestions. Btw, the pink tone was a deliberate move as I like the tone better this way.

cheers
