blzrd,

Nice flower shot! I really like the DOF you've achieved and your subject is completely free of any background distractions. Pretty good focus on the petals.

A few thoughts:
-Although I like the background's lack of clutter, I'm not sure I like the color. It's a weird shade of green.
-I feel like the flower's colors could use a little contrast and slightly more vibrant colors.
-I'm wondering if there is too much space on the top of the photo...crop a bit off maybe?

I briefly played around a little and here's what I did:

I cropped some off the top, increased the saturation and contrast a little, and then brightened it a pinch. Finally, I asked my program (Paint Shop Pro 8) to automatically adjust the color balance, and this is what I got...slightly different color green background...do you like this shade better? Perhaps the background needs more texture (not clutter, but something a bit less uniform in color)...

Interesting mix of color, shapes and textures. You did well holding good depth of field and sharpness.

blzrd,

Sometimes a part of a subject can be fascinating. While there's no absolute rule for how much to show, this shot looks like it just missed being framed completely. Like cutting someone's ear off in a portrait. Also, in your original you may get some better color by lowering your yellow balance.
