I haven't done much editing to this yet. Shot this today of my daughter at the playground. I was really shocked at how grown up she looks! Definitly not my baby anymore.

The one thing I noticed right away was the shadow on her face. To me it doesn't seem that overpowering but it might help the image if it was gone.
Let me know what you think Thanks.

D.O.M.A.W., Welcome back

Yes, from earlier posts I see less child, more "person." If you were going to lighten to maybe bring the eyes out some, the face will lose some of that contrast. This is where layering can help, keeping the highlights from going all white while shadows are lightened. How's your editting?

I like the shot very much as to have the workings of "Rembrandt" lighting on her face (see the beginning of the small triangle of light on her left cheek that Rembrandt was noted for.) The image is a little too small to see the eyes clearly but if you have read any of my portrait critiques, you know I am a big fan of having catchlights in the eyes. Theer appear to be some in the 10-11 o'clock position but hard to tell on this monitor. My vote is to keep the shadow and be more aware of Rembrandt lighting as you do more portraits. Check out some of his paintings as a guide.

Thanks for the welcome back Jiminy!

I'm still learning about editing and not too familiar with layering. I would like to bright up the eyes some so they stand out more. I'll consult my handy PSP for dummies book and see what I can come up with! Feel free to edit also!
