K so last night, I was getting ready for work and I walked outside. To my amazement, 4 bumble bees were buzzing around my flower bush in my back yard. I just had to pull out my telephoto macro lens and get some close up shots of these critters. I think this was the best one that I took. Is there anything I can improve on? It has some post processing (color and contrast). I was thinking of submitting it to national geographic in the your shot section but I thought I would post here first. What do you think?

To me this looks good...very good, except there seems to be something infront of the bee in the foreground, seen as a translucent white oval near its head. Because the bee is supposecd to be the focal point, you want it to be sharp, and this takes away from it a little.
Now photoshop wizards, tell us how to get rid of this, or at least tone it down a little......of course, that is assuming that other people agree with me, and it's not just me being picky on what is a fantastic photograph. EDIT: oh hang on, its probably the bee's wing, in which case you can ignore my post, whilst I sit in the corner feeling stupid

You are right. It is her wing. I wish I would have got it with the wing back. I need to see if they are out there durring the day so I can get a high speed shutter. Any other thoughts?

blzrd,
Really good looking shot. I don't find the bees wings to be a problem. IMO the clumped blurred stamens that go intersect with the background are a touch distracting. In fact, that is where my eye headed first. Still I think the shot is outstanding! |
