What shutter speed did you use for the waterfall?
For waterfalls, you generally would want to use a tripod and a slow shutter speed to produce a silky effect. eg this photo by champy1013: ![]() Here's the full tutorial to shooting waterfalls on the DPS blog: http://digital-photography-school.co...l-photography/ For the other shot, it looks a bit too crowded, with too many subjects. |

Iris, I would like to comment on your second shot.
![]() I really like the idea of this shot...guitar, plants, mirror...as you said 'tranquility.' I love the combinations of colors! Here are a few suggestions: -It looks like the shot could stand to be a pinch sharper. Did you use a tripod? -Again, I love the combination of objects, but perhaps a slightly different arrangement would improve the composition. For example, I love the rug...it might be better to get the whole bottom frame filled with it (currently you have the right hand corner wood floor). The plants are a great addition to your concept of tranquility, but I think it might feel a little less busy if they weren't almost touching the mirror. More white space here may make the photo feel less crowded. Also aiding in reducing busyness would be to remove that black object on the far left bottom corner. It doesn't seem to serve a purpose, so it can go. Finally, you could try removing the other miscellaneous objects on the table (hard to tell what they are so they don't really add anything) in addition to cloning out the light fixtures in the mirror. The way I see the finished product is the following objects: mirror, plants, table, guitar, rug, and white wall. Simplifying your composition in this way would definitely create a more 'tranquil' feel. -Lastly, I would try to include all the plants' branches on the left within the frame. Basically you can move your whole frame over to the left to include the branches and get rid of the bare floor. That way, all your subjects would be nicely contained within your composition. Again, Iris, I love this idea! I think you are off too a great start and with a couple of minor adjustments this can be even better! Thanks for sharing your creativity!
