Default Fence at sunrise

So I went out this morning on a walk to see what kinds of pictures I could take. this was one of the best ones I think I took. I personally like the white fence with the colored background. Gives nice contrast. I had to take the picture 4 times to get the focus exactly how I wanted it. What do you guys think?

blzrd,

If you achieved the focus you were looking for then it's a good shot. I would have tried to get the entire fence in focus and let the eyes follow it out of the shot. BUt as I said, if you got the focus you were looking for then it is a good shot.

Yeah I guess I could have busted out my telephoto and stepped across the street to get more in focus. Maybe I will try that in the morning to see if I like it more.

Edit: So I just realised, that would have completely been the opposite thing that I needed to do. The problem was I was using my telephoto at the time at 70 mm. I will take the picture again in the morning with my kit lens at about 25 mm and see what happens.....

Nice shot. Just a suggestion: try cloning out the rusted metal pieces on the crossbar of the fence.

I attempted to clone it out and it is impossible to make it look good. With the shadows, the depth of field and the split in the wood, it would be impossible to make it look realistic. And to be honest with you, I think the rusty part adds more to the composition.

I will actually take the picture tomorrow morning as I am already home from work (work grave yard) and I don't want to get dressed and go out again....

This fence is a great subject to learn the depth-of-field capabilities of your lens at different distances/focal lengths/fstops. Did you maunally focus or use auto-focus selectively?

I manually focused it. I just trying it out to see how accurately I could focus it. Autofocus with birds in flight doesn't work too well...
