Hi,
Got out of the house early this morning and landed up at the beach where I caught these boys having a whale of a time in the water! I had to do quite a lot of post-processing on these images and as you can see, with all the red tints coming up I didn't exactly do a very good job of it! Basically played around with the settings in Picasa first and then took it to Photoshop and played around some more with the levels and on the unsharp mask. This pic and the ones in the next set have been cropped. It was just way too difficult to get that perfect shot, what with me worrying about exposure and f-stops and what not and them boys jumping all over the place!! But I had a blast! Thought I'd put up both the colour pic as well as its B&W cousin. Which one would you go for? I'm undecided on this one! ![]()

I def think the BW shot is better, since there is not real interesting colour in the shot to actually keep the colour. (IMHO) In the bw he almost looks like a cut-out. love the lines created by the extended arms!
Good Stuff

ashwinvissa,
kunaldaswani is a modest fellow, and sees well with his own eyes, and has an equally valid view. He will gain confidence once he finds how average I am in most everything I do. This week I'm liking color; next week I might look at shape, then B/W. Your photo is pleasing to us both.

Just a thought...
I prefer the first one. The second one looks like a shape has been cut out than a silhouette, if not for the tiny bit of reflection from the tip of the fingers. Great shot and nice timing. Last edited by underexposed; 06-15-2007 at 01:14 PM. |

Just to toss my hat into the ring, I'll vote for the first one with color. However, the monochrome version may have its place in a different setting such as advertising where text is added to the image. Glad you had a good time shooting and processing these.

I vote colour too, but you can't wrong either way with this shot.
Just a thought, on the original do you have any detail on the boy? It might be worth experimenting a bit to see if you couldn't get just a bit of tone and detail there (you have a bit on the hand at the left for example). I wonder if this would integrate him a little better, and banish any "cardboard cutout" impression. EL |

Kunal: I find it damn funny to be replying to your comments here as well!! Thank you for your kind words but!
jC: I agree with you about the colour adding range to an action filled shot! Thank you for your comments sir! underexposed: Thanks man! If you ask me, i kinda like the silhouette or the 'cut-out' efect! clockdoc: I had an absolute blast shooting these guys! 'Twas fun to shoot someone who was obviously having a ball! ELAY: I just checked the original and there is a little bit more detail than in the image here. You can make out the difference between the tones of his skin and hair for example and some of his facial features are distinguishable. I'll try and see it if I can bring my processing up to speed and then maybe I'll post the re-worked image here! Thank you for your comments!
