Default My first post!

Hi all,

As the title suggests, this is my first post here. After much poking and prodding by one of your members, Kunal (kunaldaswani) I thought I'd put up a picture I took and get some feedback on it! I've only just started taking pictures and I'm afraid I didn't really keep track of any settings on the camera while I was shooting although from now on I intend to do that! Looking forward to learning a lot from y'all here!

Ashwin

ps: I'm using a Canon S3 IS and I know I was shooting on 'Program' mode with exposure set at 2/3 and colour set to 'vivid'. http://www.flickr.com/photos/34342877@N00/548672549/

Hi, Ashwin and fellow S3 IS user. Welcome to the board. I'm new, too, both to the forum and photography.

You can press the DISP. button twice in preview mode to get the details on camera, or you could view the EXIF.

Hi Ashwin and welcome to DPS! I really like your shot of the pipe. It shows a bit of thinking outside the box. The colors came out great and I like how you chose not to center the pipe, but rather feature it off to the left. The texture of the substances, along with the subtle shadows created by the pipe really add to the shot. The whole composition is minimalist, yet very effective. As soon as I saw your shot I was reminded of a recent assignment here at DPS, on Rust. Check it out if you are interested:

Thanks for sharing your creativity and I look forward to more!

Hi Ashwin and welcome! If your looking for your exif info, look next to your picture on flickr. Where it says "Additional Information" you'll see a line that says "More properties". Click on this and it will tell you what you want to know.
Nice contrast of color on your shot, BTW.

Underexposed: Thank you for the tip! Apart from the camera we use, we also have Madras in common I say!

Teewinot: Thank you for you kind comments! But to be perfectly honest, it was Kunal who told me about the 'Rule of Thirds'! And I must admit it dramatically changed the way I took pictures!

Sara: All the information that I saw when I followed your instructions scared me I say! And thanks!

pma: Thank you! It's always great to get feedback! And when it's positive, all the better!
