Default To the sky

I shot this with my Olympus E-500 while on a hiking trip. Be gentle as I'm really new at this. i did try and lighten the rocks a bit and added a bit more blue to the sky.

I like the wway the rocks move from one corner to the other - nice composition. The saturated blue works for me. Very nice shot!

I like the composition as well. When saturating a sky, pay attention to the transition/blending between lighter and darker sky, since it can show some nasty artifacts.

windrider86,

A grand view, vivid. If you lost the piece of cloud on right, more attention would fall on subject. And the blue inner frame: not helping. Too big.

This is a good example of when having a file of stock cloud shots would be very handy. While the blue sky is certainly very nice, some interesting clouds could add some drama. I have even seem some skilled in Photoshop and similar software add their own "airbrushed" freehand clouds.

I see what you are saying. And with that, what do you think of this one?

Nice work! You may want to crop down from the top a little to reduce some of the void in the upper right hand corner.

windrider86,

Wicked clouds! Just punches up the drama level.

As clockdoc suggests, crop would help some. And you can maintain square if you take some right side too. If your photo were 12x12, one inch top and right side would bring emphasis on subjects.

Part two: Last edit looks good as Landscape too. Just as experiment, see if adding a 2-3 pixel outline inside black frame helps to separate it from photo.
