Default old tree

i just want to ask about his old tree photo, whether this photo has a nice outcome and nice angle or not? suggestions please

It would be interesting to see the whole tree in its natural setting. As shown, it could be used as a textbook presentation to shown characteristics of this species and its growth rings. You also have the potential as an abstract shot with some closer cropping taking in the bark as well as a portion of the tree rings. Was the tree burned to give it such a dark appearance?

Hi Pierre,

I love shots like this in black and white, lets the textures stand out without any distraction or muting of detail that color can do. I think, as far as improvement, you might consider framing the shot a little differently, simply because the white background shapes are less interesting than the tree shape itself. Interesting negative space with the positive shape of the subject make for a stronger composition in my opinion.

I'm not sure which would be better but I might try framing something like this in two basic ways. I might crop the subject very closely, focusing in on the dark hole and end of the tree trunk and letting the bark fill the frame. Otherwise, I might try stepping back a little and using more of the tree shape to play with the background shapes.

thanks you all. no clockdoc, i didnt burned the tree to make it look darker, i just set the camera to black and white and that's all i did.. the tree itself is actually abit of a dark brown.
