Default Another rose

I havent touched up this at all. Just shot it in the garden with a OlympusE500 and a macro lens.
What could be done to make this truly outstanding?

Hi, In looking at the EXIF data it shows that you shot this at 1/80 sec, f/8 and the flash was fired. I don't know what the Creative Exposure Program is that was referenced. The focal length is 35mm . If this is the shorter of the two kit lenses that typically come with the E500, you were shooting at the longer end of the focal length for that lens. (The Zuiko Digital 14–45mm f3.5 – 5.6 . Close-ups as near as 15 in/38cm are possible throughout the zoom range.)You may want to refer to your owners manual for the minumum focusing distances for the lens as the overall sharpness isn't there. In this case the softness adds to the delicate nature of the rose. The onboard flash has created some additional shadows as well. I encourage you to keep experimenting with your work in macro as it takes some practice to learn the capabilities of your lens.

It does need to be a little sharper, and perhaps that was because of the minimum focus distance as Clockdoc says. But you did have the right idea getting in nice and close. Did you use a tripod or was it handheld? That could also effect the sharpness, as could a slight breeze moving the flower.

Last point, I think it would help to have a rose a little more in its prime. The blackened edges are distracting. It can be difficult sometimes. I was looking in my garden today and it seemed every rose I had was looking less than photogenic.
