What do you guys think? I took them with my S3 IS, handheld partly zoomed.

Technically speaking, your bottom shot is nice and sharp and properly exposed. However you need to watch you background as the hot spots and out-of-focus thorns tend to distract. The first shot was a real challenge as you were shooting into the shadow side of the bird and have lost shadow detail. The background has been handled nicely here. Perhaps the flash would have helped fill in the voids.
