Default Attempt at glamor shot

Original

Glmaor Shot
Glamor Shot Attempt

Did a lot of work on this image. I wonder if I went to golden or if I should darken the background. What do you guys think? Also how is the crop? Some on flickr say it looks washed out I think I see what they are talking about. When I move the image over on my 2nd LCD monitor which isn't as good the image does look kind of washed out. I really need to buy one of the calibarators but, I don't wanna dish out 200 bucks on something like that but, it helps when you want to get things just right.

Murtasma,

You know how much I like to do post work, right? I'd take this one again, just from finding that skin and hair are least likely to look better after editting. More light, second source if possible, backlit even. And from a higher angle, the chin may look more proportional to face.

Or throw some contrast on this one.

Murtasma,

Do-over is better, though still pale nose/mouth area. Have you shot an over-the-shoulder look?

For me the problem with this isn't so much the editing, but the original pose. Jim suggested an over-the-shoulder look. That's always a nice start for a glamour-type shot. I don't think her pose in this shot shows her off to her best advantage. Here is something on the blog with some good ideas: http://digital-photography-school.co...pearl-earring/

I cannot add to what the others have said but wanted to toss out a little experiment for portrait enthusiasts. Shoot the portrait as you normally would. Then raise the camera 18 inches and shoot it again, same pose. Now lower the camera 18 inches from the original starting height and reshoot the pose a third time. Compare the effect. With the elections in the news, look at the angle politicians are photographed from. Shooting from a lower angle squares up the jaw and presents a stronger, more familiar image as they are often photographed at a speaker's podium and from a lower vantage point. Raising the camera--- well , I'll leave it to you to form your own conclusions.

Murtasma,

You could guess I had to try at least one time to edit this. It's not too different. Want to see?

Default Attempt at glamor shot

Here's my glamour edit of this photo. Imperfections in her skin were reduced via the use of the healing brush in PS. I used the Magnetic Lasso Tool to create a new layer with just the model. I then clicked Select/Inverse to invert the selection to the background instead and used the Gaussian Blur effect to seriously blur the background. I also used the Gaussian Blur effect to slightly blur the model layer and then reduced the opacity of the model layer to about 50%. Used the Magnetic Lasso Tool to select the color of her eyes and enhanced the color by adding more green. Used the Smudge Tool to smooth out the very slight "bags" under her eyes and the Dodge Tool to brighten the darkness under her eyes just slightly, as well as her teeth. (*sigh* if only it was this easy in real life ...) I also used the Image/Adjustments/Exposure tool to bring back some of the color and contrast that had been lost when the top layer was blurred.
