Default Lisbon Street

This is something I took a couple years ago whilst wandering through Lisbon. Was one of those spur of the moment shots so I didn't have time to set up properly and now have to do a lot of post work to make it look..well..better. I'm thinking gray scale and cropping to start?

Comments welcome but would rather not have the image edited.

Elektra, Welcome

The first shot has some good colors that would respond well to some saturation, lighten/contrast, any way you like to boost colors. Add a new sky, wow.

That's a very unique image. I like the crop and color on the first one, but I like seeing a little more detail in the second one. I'd follow Jiminy's advice and keep the colors. Maybe post-process to lighten exposure, just a hair.

The picture draws me in, I want to head up the sidewalk to see what is around the curve. Nice shot.

I find the second image to be more intresting. The only complaint I have is the lack of depth of field. the buildings near the top are a little soft and out of focus. I like the black and white version and the compositon in it. With the man at the bottom of the frame with the cruved street leading your eyes up and out of the image to the left.

Electra, I like what you've done with the zoom/crop/lighten. It brings the details up out of the shadows and adds interest (for me, at least).

I wonder what your second version would look like with the color still in? I can see why you would take it to B&W, or monochrome generally, but sometimes a very subtle color (as you have in the original) can help give (or in this case, keep) depth and dimension. As Jiminy suggested, a different sky might add something more, also.

Very interesting shot. I'm in agreement with tufcat that I want to walk up the street and around the curve...

My vote goes to the second shot as the one with the most potential. Very hard to 'read' in its current state. I'll reserve any further comments until I see what you have done with regard to the suggestions by others regarding cropping, etc.

Default Thanks

For all the suggestions! It's nice to see that I at least accomplished a little of what the shot felt like when I turned the corner and saw the man and the curve up the hill. Was a quick shot to try to capture some of that sense of movement. Going to play with the colours and exposure and see what I can do. Will let you know how it turns out
