Default Life Guard on Duty

Fuji FP S3100: ISO 64 - f/9 - 1/210 sec. - 36mm - -0.9 comp. - 7:11 PM

First of about 10 that are cropped, period. As is, but the life guard (upper left seagull) may need to be emphasized to fit title. I had to turn off computer before the urge to lighten overall got the better of me. Thoughts?

The backlighting is great but the gull is far too small and dark to for the title to make it a focus. Personally, I think I would go for a much tighter crop on the central group of goslings; if you are determined to stick with the gull, try bringing him out and dulling the water to move the centre of attention (see also this excellent tutorial I recently discovered via a link on DPS).

I agree with wulf on this one - the gull is too small to really stand out without modifying the shot. If you are willing to change the composition of the pic, cloning out the gull would probably make for a stronger picture - the goslings and 'mom' would be the main focus without the slightly out of focus and underexposed gull.

I think that the birds are just too dark for my taste. The glow around their edges is nice. As for the composition, I'm OK with it as is. Maybe just change the title to Gull and Goslings or Gull and Goose or somesuch.

I think the gull is kind of odd in this image. I love the geese and the fuzzy babies. The leading lines from the water to the geese draw your eyes to the parents watching over them. Very nice composition. The almost silloutte of the geese is well done. I think if you took the clone tool and cloned the sea gull completely out then cropped the green grass at the top of the frame out you have a winner.

Good shot! Cute little birds but, they turn into hot heads quick.

Anyone see this one differently?

I tend to agree with Murtasma that losing the gull would be a good idea - the geese are lovely on their own, the gull distracts me.

I think the revised version is heading closer to the title but I think the gull is still too undramatic to earn its place in the picture.

Hi Jim hope you didnt mind, thought I would have a dabble to see if I could help things.

536212589_62477a5e0fedit_o

First of all I put my custom "sunshine" filter on through virtual photographer, made the colour slightly richer and tried to emphasise the sun shining.

Then I freehand selected the gull and used curves to highlight him, then cos he was very noisy, I removed his noise.

Okey Doke?
