Default DJ Erictro - Low light photography

Just got myself the "Nifty Fifty" and i cannot begin to tell you how much i love this lens. It is perfect for my style of photography (which i am still tryin to discover - thinkin its the safest and most boring - Portraits )

anyway, heres one of my first shots with this new lens, headed to the club at took a couple of shots of my dj friend. What do u guys think. I kinda like it.. not sure..

It would be good if he was a bit sharper to contrast with the beautifully soft lights in the background.

BTW, I agree with you on the fun of a good prime lens. I picked up a cheap manual Nikon E-series 50mm f/1.8 on eBay recently and have got some good results from it. The limitation of not being able to zoom and thus having to move around to create the framing I want has led me to getting some portraits I am very pleased with.

I really wish he was sharper, but light was very low, did not have space to move back in the console, im sure could have got him sharper if i had more space. Plus he was turning around to see what i was doing and throw me outta the console so i did not have much time either.

It kind of looks like the focus was on his headset. Maybe, if you would've had it set to manual focus you would have gotten better results. Not to bad though. Have fun experimenting.

Yeah i should have focused manually but like i said i did not have much time either. Attached another shot after the lights cam on, just love the lens and how it reads low light!

I think the second shot is much better. Is it post-processed at all? At that size, it comes out looking like something between illustration and photo (not necessarily bad but not entirely natural).

kunaldaswani,

You do portraits in a way that suggests you prefer them. The effort and interest in getting good ones shows. Better and better.
