Default Baby Capture

Not looking for a critique as such, but I have been seeing a lot of photos worked in the matter as shown below. I did this with the background sized to 8x10 with a 4x6 insert. Subject to framing.
The photos are the same except for size and the background has a gaussian blur added. Most all have some type of saying or statement added in text.
Thoughts, ideas on this type of project?

try this: do the gaussian blur on a duplicate layer, then go through all of the blending modes for the layer one by one. especially try: overlay, soft light, hard light, and screen.

as for the text, I find that it adds more interest to size the text differently and move it around. when using different sizes, the more important words should be bigger and the less important ones smaller. here's an example of text placement on a pic:

googlit, thanks for the blur info. I guess I was really looking for thought input on the picture on picture thing. I will fool around with it in PS and see what works and what doesn't. It just seems that a trend in family photos is showing up with something like a full group photo of a family for background, with one family member snapshot in the foreground. As an example. Anyway thanks.

Googlit, oh yeah, I like that saying by Robin Williams.

I must have hit the button twice or else I stuttered.

oh, sorry... I misunderstood. I thought you put the picture on top as an example of what the original was, and that the background image was the final output.

I would probably blur the background image more, maybe desaturate or darken it so that the focus is drawn better to the one in the foreground. Might do a border and a drop shadow on the foreground picture as well. for example:

and re: the stutter, if you click the edit button on your post, there's an option to delete.

That's what I was talking about. I was trying to figure out a way to better seperate the two. I see that there are several options. Thanks again.
