Default Bobber

Almost didn't want to add to the good congestion (took three hours to go through this morning's contributions). It's better this way, I think.

Fuji FP S3100: - ISO 64 - f/9 - 1/140sec - 36mm - 10 AM overcast

Post work: crop, blur layer set at Difference

Bobber

I love it! if it was any other picture I would think it loks a bit drab but being the photo it is i love it! The water color really gives me the feeling of the area outside of the picture. i can almost smell the water. I really see the rule of thirds here too.

xxpinballxx,

Thanks. The one thing I thought was "off" was the thirds, but didn't see a way around it without retaking. See? You never know how it looks to others without Critique. And the water did smell (sorry).

well coming from me i may be totally "off" with the thirds rule but it looks like the bobber and the plant are right on the bottom two intersections maybe the top of the dock is a bit too high up in the photo but still a great photo. I love being around lakes and rivers and the smells and this almost has me standing there with a rod and reel in my hands.

Lovely shot, Jiminy. The only thing I would say is maybe a touch more contrast needed. Very calm feeling to the composition.

purplepixie,

Oops. I went the other way, at one point even suggesting fog. I'm going back today, weather permitting, and if I get a brighter shot this time, it'll contrast better. Thanks for eyeing.

I wonder what would happen if just the bobber was more vibrant - as a sort of counterpoint to the overall softness. Just a stray thought.

Farkled,

Good thought. It looked tacked-on when I upped the saturation and brightness. The real one was really dull and weathered, so I went back to just allowing the color to stand out because of its hue. I can think of other photos where that vibrant contrast will work. Try it on this if you want.

Hey Jim --

I have to say that this photo doesn't work for me drab like this. I understand the impulse not to tweak saturation overly here, but i think then it needs a bit more texture on the dock to compensate. Maybe up the contrast a bit, and then apply a bit of local contrast enhancement to get more out of the boards?

huh....guess I am the only one really liking this....I can see why its not as attractive to some but I guess memories are getting in the way of my judgement.
Reminds me of days when I was young and didnt have any stresses in life or cares in the world. Really works for me Jiminy and I would love permission to use this pic in my home. I have an aquarium room that it wouldgo grat in matted and framed. Full credit to you of course for any who view it.
