Hi Jiminy. Thanks for the encouraging comments.

Jiminy is being complimentary, so let me be critical...
The depth of field is good but I don't think you have got the bud sharp enough to make it really stand out, although it may be possible to post-process that in. Also, I don't think it works having the bud centred in the image. Try re-cropping so that the bud is about a third of the way in from the left hand edge - if possible add a little more breathing space on the right hand side. It has potential though, so please don't take that as cold water poured on your abilities. I think you have better pictures on your Flickr photostream, like the Daylily next to it, which is both sharper and better positioned (along the lines I was talking about). Wulf |

underexposed,
Complimentary, yes. Flattery, no. I like bud and bloom photos, and would encourage you to look around and apply wulf's suggestion where needed.

Attached is a small version of the kind of crop I had in mind. I roughly cloned in an extended background - you might need to reshoot it.
I also did some other post-processing - a bit of contrast and colour enhancement and some sharpening. However, the best way to get more sharpness in a picture is to ensure the original photo is as pin-sharp as possible. If you get a chance to retake it and can fix the focus, go for several shots and slightly change the distance of the camera from the bud on each one. Chances are that one will come out with the focus in just the right place. Wulf |
