Default First attempts with my g7

I just bought a new Canon g7 and found myself quite encouraged by the the fine picture quality (compared to my former Sony P120 anyway). So here are a couple of pictures from a newbie photographer.

What I like about the pictures:

I like the sharpness of the swans head - and the way you can see all the little holes in the black part over the beak.

I just like the silent feeling of the bw horse and carriage. I would like to remove the power cables runnning in the top of the picture and the two people in the right - but I know close to nothing about editing.

Agon, Welcome

That swan portrait is pretty good; white feathers are hard to keep from becoming a solid mass. You've got some definition left there. Sharp, nice head turn.

B/W is good and could be fixed with a minimum of painting over lines with other parts of foliage used as paint (that's your cloning tool's function). Study threads here in Techniques, Post Processing below. Ask questions, we can get you through it!

I would leave more room behind carriage/in front of horse if taking a similar photo, it just looks better, less cramped.

Yes I figured that would be the solution. I have experimented a bit with the clone tool. I will try it soon.

There were other horses and carriages behind the carriage and in front of the horse - so leaving more room was not an option. And it was swarming with people - so I only just managed to get this picture almost "people free".

I just had a 10 min cloning session. You dont have to go very near to see that something has been done. Bot removing the cables definately improves the motive.

Maybe I'm blind (entirely possible from the amount of study and reading I do), but I've got to say that I think that you did a pretty good job of cloning out the power lines with 10 minutes work

Love the swan shot, very interesting bird to shoot, Jiminy is right the details of the body can be lost due to the bright white colour (this happened on one of my recent shots). How dod you get the shot of the swan? i am assuming you had to get quite close.

Thank you all for the comments.

The swan was lying on the grass next to a lake, so I was able to get quite close.
