Default Portrait shot

Hi, I'm posting my first attempt with a portrait, an area within photography I would like to learn. I like working both with the actual shot and with the post-processing. I welcome any comments. Thanks and have a nice day. /Mikael

Hey Mikael --

The pose is interesting, and I think the setting works well -- the chair looks good in BW.

If I had to criticize, I would say (recognizing that I have a poor eye for composition) that if it were me I might look for a bit more subject on the left side of the frame. I am also not sure about the BW conversion and the post. I think you want more contrast generally, and particularly between your model's skin and the stucco, and I also think that the highlights in the robe got a bit out of hand.

I had a quick look at your site and feel a bit sheepish commenting on the work of such an accomplished photographer, but hey, I guess one of the great and terrible things about these forums is their radically democratic nature.

Thanks for your comments Elay! i did the over exposure on purpose, why the highlights are washed out and the stuocco is too close the her skin tones. I might have gone overboard though.

I asked for critique so you don't need to feel bad about providing it. That's the only way to learn. Thanks for your kind words about my other photos.

/Mikael

Hi Mikael,
Interesting technique and pose. I like the isolated color. My only observation is that the angle (up her nose) is not the most flattering for a female. Thanks for sharing your work with us. I'll take a look at your portfolio as I didn't want to be influenced by your other work.

Just had a look at your website.. You have a fine array of work and subjects. I was very impressed with your artistic flair and eye for composition. It appears also that you are well travelled. I lok forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Mikael,

I've come back to this shot at least 4 times now for no other reason than I like it. A lot. Thanks for sharing her with us.

Thanks for your kind words Clockdoc. I saw the nose issue too, but thought the overall photo was good enough to share. A lesson for future shots.
