Great shot! Hope you don't mind, but I 'borrowed' your shot and re-edited so I can show you what I think could make it better.

First off, great sky! I love the sky, so I played around with the colors, and brightened them up a bit. Was this a sunset or sunrise? I'm thinking it was a sunrise?

Anywho, another thing I noticed was the big circular white thing to the right. Very distracting, so I tried cropping it. Now, you could go several ways with the cropping. If you want to focus more towards the gorgeous sky then you might like this crop/edit...

Or if you want most of the picture then you might want to go with this one...

But all in all, I love the composition! Great colors too!

The one thing I noticed was the buildings are a little bit underexposed.
Great shot!

I like the idea, and the sky really adds to the photo, but I think ships must be hard to photograph -- awfully large.

I think most of the really great photos of commercial ships I have seen tend to make use of perspective -- on the wharf looking up at the bow, or maybe somewhere high looking down

I wonder if you got a chance to shoot this over again if you could get either the bow or the stern of the American Century in, and maybe instead of shooting across her, shoot from one end or another -- might help clarify the elements of the picture.

Of course this might also prevent you from capturing the sky, which was probably what drew you to make the photo.

When I am thinking about photographing something new and a bit out of the ordinary, I often do a Flickr search to see how people more talented than me have approached it.

I think you can just see the saginaw in the second edit by urgirlie13. NIN, did you do any cropping of the original image?.. d'you have access to any image tools -> photoshop or the likes, paintshop pro, picasa2 etc?.. Could have a play around with it, maybe a little fill lighting to bring out some details in the building in front.. Maybe be good to see a bit more saginaw?

What are you thinking of Digi so far?
