Default Old House

Hello everyone, this is my first post. This was taken while I was on vacation. It is an old house that was built in the 1930 and located in central Texas. Please give me your thoughts about the photo.

Hi and Welcome to the group. You have a lot going on in this photo of a house with interesting character. In the foreground you have the bench and trash can as well as some heavily shadowed woods. The trees tend to act as frames somewhat breaking the image into pieces. As the eye moves into the picture, the wall acts as a barrier to getting to the house. This is a good "establishing shot" giving the overall view of what you observed. I think the stronger shots would have been more close-ups featuring the angles and textures the house offers. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

i would have suggested moving to another location to take the picture. much of the wooded area on the right is underexposed while the sky is completely blown out. if you're able, i would also suggest cloning out the garbage can. this looks more like a quick snapshot.

Hi, Banhamut, welcome to dps! What a beautiful and interesting old house. I think it could make a great subject to shoot. I agree with Clockdoc in his assessment of the image. Sometimes simpler is best and this picture has a lot going on. I think your instincts about framing the house with the trees was a good one, but the trees are a little close to the center. If you could move in closer, either with your feet or a zoom lens, cutting out the bottom distracting elements and perhaps move to the right to cut out one of the trees, it might make a better picture. Don't worry! This is a great shot to learn with which is the whole point of coming to dps .

Thanks for all of you comments and ways to make this picture better. I have only been shooting for about a month, so I value your opinions very much. Hopefully with DPS and alot of shooting I will get better. Thanks alot. More pictures to come.

I agree with the rest....good shot but now you need to get in there and find the perfect angles too shot from. A few closer shots focusing on the house itself without the distractions. great subject though....

Hi Banhamut
Beautiful house - hope you can get more photos of it.
I agree with the rest about getting intersting angles and close-ups, but I also like the lush greenery framing the house in yours - I would find an angle between two (the third one is distracting) of the trees if possible to keep that mysterious look.
Looking forward to seeing more
