Default Low down shot of car

Please critique this shot

Settings for the camera:
Make Canon
Model Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT
Aperture Value f/8
Exposure Bias Value 0 EV
Exposure Program Portrait
Flash Flash, Auto-Mode
Focal Length 17 mm
ISO 400
Metering Mode Multi-Segment
Shutter Speed Value 1/200 sec

The only post processing I did was the highlights and shadows to bring out the houses in the background a bit more.

nice.....i think the only thing i see immediately is the background is a bit distracting. maybe take that same shot at a park or at dusk with a city skyline behind it. I love the color on that too.

Thanks pinball!

Which color in particular are you referring to?

Technically you have a nice shot of the car. However because you used the wide angle it makes the rear of the car appear a bit too large for the frame , IMHO. The phrase "in your face' comes to mind as the size is so pronounced. I agree with pinball regarding the distracting background. In general, if there is something with words or type such as the license plate, viewers will tend to want to read what it says taking away from the overall impace of the image. May I ask why you used the Exposure Program Portrait mode. I am not familiar with your specific camera but it is my understanding that the Portrait Mode will use a larger f/stop to help soften the background. However you image seems to be sharo from the front all the way to the vehicle in the background. Again, technically very well done. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Yes, I took the shot very close to the car (I was lying on my stomach on the driveway with my elbows on the driveway). Shots taken that close to any big object like my car tend to have that 'in-your-face' effect.

Car shots definitely look better when taken from far away and zoomed in. The perspective then appears correctly.

I tried a few shots and the last one was in the portrait mode. The reason why the background also turned out sharp was simply because of post processing.
