Lightbulb Mother nature is pissed

This was a HDR shot of a tree canopy in a park here in michigan. Once I tone mapped the image I realized that it would be perfect to attempt to do a mirror flip of it. I then did some channel mixing , selective coloring and a bunch of other things. I did this late at night so I can't remember the exsact steps I took. I see a bettle or bug in the middle of the image that looks quiet angry hence the title.

Click on the picture for a larger image which looks much better.

Hi Murtasma,
Very creative and original. My first impression was that it was some sort of "creature" in an undersea environment. For Purplepixie, HDR is an acronym for High Dynamic Range. It has to do with the range of detail from light to dark that one can capture in a photo. Your eye can accomodate a tremendous dynamic range. Cameras are less sensitive and the way in which we display the final image makes a difference (print, transparency, projected image, viewed on a monitor, etc.) There is software such as Photomatix Pro (a free trial version is available at www.hdrsoft.com) that helps you manipulate the "best" detail from several exposures (typically 2 stops over exposed, one at normal exposure and one 2 stopsunder exposed) of the same scene (best shot on a tripod) to create one with better "dynamic range." Do a Google search for "high dynamic range" and you will find many sites with examples. One neat feature is that you can get some very creative and artistic results such as the one Murtasma presented here.

Very cool Murtasma! I'd love to see the photo right before you flipped it to better appreciate the HDR. I love the effect you created with that flip, however. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Very creative in doing the mirroring and great drama from the tone mapping.

Thanks for posting the original...it's neat to see how that transformed into your final image. What a change! The mood is totally different in your flipped image. Cool.
