Default Stadium Entrance

PGE PARK

I took this yesterday on my way to the store. I pass this everyday and always take a look because Ithink it is a neat scene. My question is do you think there is too much going on? I really liked how the selective coloring turned out, but does it complicate the scene too much? Any advice is appreciated!

Settings:
Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture: f/22
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 400

I really like that picture. I enjoyed the fact that the face draws your eyes forward and is a focal point, but that the color and detail in the stadium draw your eyes backward giving the picture good depth. I enjoy the detail the selective coloring adds.....if anything I would try maybe to color the coke sign towards the right to give it a little more pop.....but then again I may not like that once I see it, could be pretty harsh compared to the rest of the color.

All in all....cool shot.

Red face

I actually like the areas that you selected to remain in color. It enhances the image just enough and doesn't seem to take away from the entire scene.

Great photo

Thanks, i really appreciate the kind words. I'm glad you guys don't think that it takes away from the whole that is the one thing I was worried about. I really appreciate the advice.

To me this is such a haunting photo. The image seems to stick with me. Take in consideration I am an amatuer photographer and even more amatuer when it comes to post production. Just curios how you were able to define what would be colored?

Thanks for the interest...

To get the colored areas I actually did a couple of different things. First I did a grey scale conversion in Photoshop (http://www.betterphoto.com/blogs/ins...ting_colo.html) I kept a copy of the colored layer for use later. To do the text I created a mask and cut out the letters using the pen tool, this then hid the grey for the text. I normally would do the same for the trees, but instead of cutting out the leaves with the pen tool I would simply paint them in with a soft brush. I didn't do this for this picture because I originally was planning to just do the text of the stadium "pge park" and nothing else. I saved it and made a few other adjustments in aperture which rendered the Photoshop layers gone. Because of this error I used a different techniqe for the trees. I (with the pen tool) selected teh ivey carefully with a small feather and then painted over the ivey with a greenish color, using a different blending mode overlay, i think, it allowed the top layer (with the green to show through. for the trees I just painted a slightly darker green over the leaves. Both colors were a bit intense so I turned down the opacity so allow them to not overpower the scene. I hope this helps if you need clarification just let me know.
