Default Sunset 21/04/2007

I went for a walk today having a burst of inspiration to do some photography and when walking I took a picture of the sunset. Here it is.

Now I look at it I think I should have cropped the clouds as well as some of the rubbish that was underneath it.

You live and learn right?

Technically speaking, the image is ok - no exposure problems, the colors are good, you can see texture in the clouds, etc.

Compositionally, i find the shot leaves something to be desired. There isn't really a focal point to rest on and while the colors of the open sky are pretty, they are not striking enough to lack other interest areas. Maybe reframe with shot with the tree's being more of a focal point or get a different angle on them with the sun setting behind?

Hi,
I agree with your last comment in that cropping some of the heavy clouds out and making it into more of a panoramic view may help. You may also want to try cropping out the bush or tree in the lower right hand corner as it tends to draw one's eye to it but doesn't add value to the overall impact. Glad you had your camera along for your walk. You never know when that prize-winning moment will present itself. Keep shooting!

I cropped the clouds and the tree out of the shot.

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time and effort to recrop and repost your sunset shot. While it has a sort of abstract quality about it after the cropping, it still needs a subject. Keep shooting! I'll be happy to help where I can.
