Default Portrait - Playing with Lighting

Hi All,

Just some quick info on the shot.
The model has a 1000W light with a softbox turned on about half way. Manual Flash with the unit pointing 90 degrees with a big of white card attached for reflection.

Camera: Canon 30D
Lense: Canon 100mm Macro f3.2

filips01, Welcome

Just a question of balance here: the backlighting has gone too far, and model is underlit. I've seen that done well, and applaud your attempt. With some minor changes either in flash strength or distance or positioning of softbox, you may shoot something more flattering. Some work on model's sunburn or rash would help overall look. If she were turned a bit, also helpful. And a better fitting garment.

I agree that the model looks a bit underlit. A little more light reflected into her face would make this a very nice portrait.

Yeah, I agree with the comments fully. =] She was right up against the softbox on that one so I might move her a bit further away next time and bump up the flash strength.

Thank you

Hi,
I think you are off to a good start. I concur with the comments made by the others. I would only add that catchlights give life to the eyes. Bear that in mind on your next portrait shoot. Add them with a reflector, supplemental lighting or as a last resort, in Photoshop. See what a difference thay can make. I'll be happy to help where I can with any future portrait shots. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Sincerely,
Lee -clockdoc-
