Taken with macro rings on a 350d.

Would appreciate your thoughts!

Awesome shot! Mantises are one of the creepiest insects ever. I love 'em!

I would go on with the usual stuff about the rule of thirds and how it should be off-center... It's dead-center and very direct. It's this that really grabs you. This bug breaks the rules, and he knows it.

If I were going to change anything, I might desaturate the bright pink thing so the attention stays on the bug. Maybe. But I love it the way it is. rock on.

It's a great image, although there is certainly scope to do a few alternative crops to experiment with composition (for example, perhaps a bit more off-centre and without the magenta element).

I really like the depth of field. Yeah, the pink is distracting but it still is an amazing shot.

maybe a smaller aperture... people like to go nuts with the aperture in macros but on some photos when th subject becomes too blur on the begginig it becomes annoying.

yeah I think the background is too blurred. Very nice photo but some added depth would help

Cool shot! The leg that comes into focus at the bottom right and the pink thing is bugging me though. What about cropping it so the focus is more on just the head? I'd love to see more of its eyes.

It is quite stunning, a bit more of depth could have helped though
