Default Sunflower - Macro

Here is my first try using a Macro lens I've rented from rentglass.com (great expeirence). Please also check out my Picasa album for the rest of my macro shots!

Please critique my shot and give me pointers if there are any "macro" experts out there. Thank you in advanced.

Using nikon D40 with Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro

miggieZ, Welcome

10, 23, 26, 31, 37, 38, 42, 46, 51, 56, 61: Any of these could also be posted as excellent examples. All of your Picasa posts (except Jose Cuervo) have wonderful color, and these listed have most in-focus material. Others were as much as 70% OOF. Hard to look at, and adds little to overall effect. Green buds are especially pleasant, and the portions of sunflowers backlit are warm and delicate. Worth the time to review. Thanks for taking the time to do a good job.

Thanks jiminyClickit for the kind words of encouragement! I was trying to fix the out of focus on many of those shots, maybe I was just too close to the subject.

Its my first time playing with a macro lens, so there is still allot for me to learn! Thank you DPS forum for the plethora of information available for the beginner photographer!

you may not of been to close to the subject cause with all macro 1:1 ratios or even 1:2 you MUST use a tripod... the hand is not steady enough for the lens/camera to focus properly and normally manually focus helps too

sooo you tried out the 105mm are you gonna save up for it now???

Yes, using a tripod is something i need to bring with me...always! My hand is certainly not steady whatsoever!

As for purchasing my own 105mm....I just recently convinced my wife that we should purchase a DSLR (D40) let alone splurge on anything else! So save up I must, especially for the $800 macro lens!

Although, she has been enjoying photographing as much as I have!

Great sunflower close ups this type of flower photos where just part of the flower is shown have become very popular with professional photographers. Please open a gallery at http://SunflowerOcity.com and share your sunflower photos with other sunflower lovers.
