Default Vivid colors cast by the moon.

Hello all,

Well, I tried some night sky pictures, as illuminated by the moon.
However, of the 15 or so shots, I ve selected one as the best of the lot.
Please advise how I may improve this picture and similar pictures (in the future).

colors of the night

Thanks

Cheers
Diablo

P.S. Since I do not have Photoshop and work off GIMP on Linux, I try as much to get my in camera composition right.

Hi,
I think you have captured a very interesting mood photo of the moon. I see that your exposure was just under 3 seconds. I assume you were using a tripod. In this short time the rotation of the earth could cause a blur if you were shooting a full moon. You used the "pattern" exposure" method which probably read lots of black sky. Composition is good but the shot may have more impact if lightened slightly. Overall, the black overpowers the moon and illuminated clouds, IMHO. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Sincerely,
Lee -clockdoc-

i agree with clockdoc, and also on most nights there would be enough wind to make a blur on longer exposures. IF you had photoshop or similar i would say maybe shoot in higher ISO, shoot RAW, post process for noise, and apply some curves. since you don't, you have to more carefully meter the scene to get some good exposure, and use some ev compensation.
