Lightbulb Closeup with D40X

Alright, I have to admit that I haven't submitted to a web forum in a LOOONG time, so please excuse my naiveness. Here's a picture I took just testing out my new D40X. Enjoy!

I think when you set this up you didnt quite get the depth of field quite right the blur is to the front which makes him look out of focus. When your doing the set up with the cross in the view finder i think you focussed to the left too much.It would have been a good picture otherwise.

Hi, exposedspectrum, welcome to dps!

When you take portraits, try focusing on the eyes or the area right between the eyes. Having the eyes in focus is generally really important in portraits, particularly in ones that are very close up such as this. Best part of your shot is that you were not afraid to get nice and close to your subject.

Agree on the point of focus - keep experimenting with narrow DOF

I agree with what has been said about the focus... having the eyes sharp definitely would have enhanced the picture.

While I like the close focus, I'm not a big fan of the crop. I'd like to see a little bit more of the glasses on the right, and maybe a little bit more of the mouth.

Try, try again!!
