Default overgrown & rusty

I like this pic, but it seems to be missing something... I just don't know what.

Hi - I like this shot but having the fruit right in the middle of the frame draws my eye to that and nothing else. I wonder if this is what makes it feel like there is something missing. Is it the fruit we are supposed to see or the rusty metal behind? Maybe a change of angle or focusing in on the metal with the stalks and fruit out of focus?

First thing i see is your subject is proper centre which doesn't stick to the rules of third. If you took it in an off centre position it must have been nicer.

As well as the comment about the centredness of the main subject, I think it is also a bit small. I would be tempted to crop to give a smaller picture and perhaps just the one berry but with it larger and off centre.

Alternatively, if you took it somewhere near you, go back and try again to get a more balanced shot (perhaps another as well, without the berries but contrasting the vertical grasses with the rusted machinery in the background).

I think I'd prefer to see either the fruit with the rusty thing or the reeds with the rusty thing but not both - they're too similar and it's confusing to the eye. I think that makes the point of the photo unclear - which of the three elements are we supposed to be concentrating on? If the fruit is where your main interest lies, maybe get in closer to them so we can see their detail and perhaps sidestep around a bit to get a less busy background.

If the rusty equipment is to be the main subject, I feel that this is a bit out of focus. The foreground objects appear to be over emphasized.

The berry looks like it should be the subject but it is too centred and too small to really give any impact. The rusty thing in the background would probably make a cooler subject, so maybe try it without the berries and have the rusty thing closer and in focus.

Getting a closer shot (or tighter shot) of the 1 berry with the "reeds' as the background, with the berry centered might work. There would be a good contrast of shaped - 1 round object among several "lines", and the berry would be highlighted...a little more background blur maybe?

The point I was trying to get across with the shot was that nature reclaims man's achievements. Kind of, anyway. I agree that I could have done better and experimented with my subject, focusing on the rusty equipment. It may also have been better if it were more obvious what the rusty thing was (an old piece of farm equipment).

So the focus of my shot was nature taking over.

Thanks for all the feedback.
