Default Pump House on the Cuyahoga

flickr (you really have to look at the original 8MP file to see the level of detail)

My Rebel XT came today, so I decided to head down to the river...

(constructive) criticism welcome.

Nice shot!

In taking it, I probably would have framed it with the waterline on the lower third dividing line (using the rule of thirds). Also, it seems a little chopped since you can't see the top of the building. Reframing would bring in either the top of the building or where the light ends, and also cut off the spotlight's reflection in the water, which draws the eye down and out of the picture.

I really like the lighting, though, and that it fades to black to the left. Very nice.

I really like this (which means this comment is going to consist more of fawning praise than constructive criticism ) - you've got the building bang on level, interesting light and the expanse of black adds to the mysterious atmosphere. Good job.

Thanks for the comments. If you look at the full image, you can see that the picture does include the entire building, however. I think I'll try to re-shoot this with the waterline on the 2/3 mark.
