Defiantly would not suggest anyone doing this alone (even though I did). Setup a tripod and secure it the best way you can to minimize the shake/movement.
This is my first shot asking anyone to 'critique my shot.' But please feel free to state your opinions on what you think or pointers/tips on how to capture these shots better! I'm a month or two into this new world of Digital SLR photography. My gear is standard Nikon D40 with kit lens. I set the shutter to a longer speed 2 - 3 seconds, as the shutter was open i tried to zoom in a bit (made shot a little shaky). Thats the only thing i would change - not zoom in. I've posted more of my Night Driving pics on my Picasa account: http://picasaweb.google.com/MiggieZ/NightDriving Hope everyone enjoys! |

step 1... find a smoother road.
step 2... go slow (so you don't go over as many bumps) step 3... when your camera is on a tripod, don't touch it (kind of defeats the purpose don't ya think?) step 4... in addition to step 3 either use a remote to trigger the shutter, or use the countdown feature so you're not touching the camera. i think i have an example or two in my flickr folder as well. the key is to start with a real smooth road as any bumps will show in the final picture. i typically set my tripod up in my back seat w/ two legs on the floor, one on the seat, then buckle it in as best i can to secure it better. i set the lens to manual focus and pre-focus before i shoot. then i start to drive, get into the right gear, and use a remote for different shutter speeds. hope that helps.
