Default Moody Train Station

I took many shots here from different spots on the platform, but this one captured the mood for me. Time was limited since I was suppose to be on the trian or I would have setup a tripod.

I had a basic problem - what to have in focus? I didn't like the idea of having the closest attendant the focus.......

Thanks for any comments / feedback

Hello there,

Well, to me the shot is a bit underexposed. Concerning the "what to have in focus" thing, I would say the woman, or the man on the right. I think it would look good. I like the composition by the way

I like this shot. My eye is drawn to the woman standing closest, and the way that she appears to be looking out makes it look like she's looking at someone or for someone. The soft colours and darkness just add to the kind of old world-ish feel.

I think this is a great photo.. You should have set the focus to infinity so the far subjects will be clearer giving an all round good look.. I like the way you took in a way that you get train in a diagonal like line unlike a straight line.. This makes it much better and interesting as you see more of the train it self and you get the detail via its bodies shades. Also i like the light coming from the top which makes its moodines. You would probably consider to adjust the contrast a little bit to add the darker tones

I really like this shot... It looks old-timey. The composition and lighting are great, and the dark/desaturated look adds to the feeling of a bygone age.

I think having the first girl in focus works well for this one. If she were out of focus, the eye would probably be drawn to her anyway. And with her in focus, the side of the train near her is as well. I found myself trying to make out what it said. It adds interest.

Nice shot.

I agree that there is a kind of "timelessness" to this shot. I like the idea of the woman being in focus as she seems to be the central subject. The rest of the scene appears more OOF which I think makes it more interesting. It lets the viewer make up his/her own story. Nicely composed particularly for doing it on the fly.

Smile Thanks for the comments

Thank you all for your feedback. This was my first post and typically a little nervous about being "out there." The shot was taken in Datong, China near the Mongolian border. Chinese trains ARE run differently. Thanks again all.
