Default Flowers B/W

Flowers

I don't usually take shots of flowers, A) I'm not that knowledgable about flowers and flower shots, B) I don't have any macro lens. On a recent walk I thought I woulud give it a try. Here is one of the shots I got. There are a couple others I put on Flickr. It's something different then my usual shots and had a good time experiementing. Any comments or suggestions is appreciated.

Settings:

Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/640)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

I really like the movement in this shot. All the flowers are pointing in the same direction, sort of towards that light area in the upper right hand corner. I also like the focus. You see the first couple of rows and then it all fades.

I guess I would fiddle with the contrast a little...I'm not sure, but maybe giving it more contrast would bring out the details a little more or just make the black and white more vivid? Just an idea.

Nice shot! I shoot flowers a lot and for someone who apparently doesn't shoot flowers much, this is a great photo!

Nieton21,

From the title I hoped for a very complex flower shape, because if you take away the color, interest drops about 50%. Your photo recovers part of that interest, in the angle and the crop (or framing). That you had a good time, recovers the rest. Enjoy more.

Jiminy,
One of the reasons that I did it in black and white is becuase really there wasnt' that much color in the first place, the flowers were white and the stems were green other then that there were some washed out shades in the background I thought were a bit distracting.

Teewinot,

Thanks for the encouragement I have tweeked the contrast and levels and think it is much better, more interesting and cleaner looking.

White Flowers
