Default Chester Canal Sunset

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the this forum and have never posted an image for critique anywhere before, but I want to start taking my photography a little more seriously and would love to receive some critique to help me improve.

This photo was taken of the canal in Chester looking towards the historic lead shot tower and steam mill. It has had its level's adjusted slightly, sharpened and cropped in photoshop.

Many thanks for any feedback,

Simon.

P.S. Sorry forgot to mention I have also cloned out some street lights that were in the carpark on the right hand side and cloned out some reflections off parked cars that could also be made out in the dark area in the lower right portion of the image.

ratmanratty, Welcome

Whatever you're doing to take your photos more seriously, continue. This with the edit is about as good as it gets. If I had to change anything, maybe a little off the top, but only to fit a readymade frame. Well done.

Thanks Jiminy!

I'm glad you liked my shot.

To be honest I did try cropping more off of the top to keep closer to a 3:4 aspect ratio, but I thought that the image seemed weaker with less of the darker sky at the top and also I was trying to abide by the rule of thirds with the horizon 1/3 up the frame and the tower 1/3 in from the right, which this crop allows.

However I totally appreciate the problem with framing prints of the image as I have already been looking at options for this and are finding that there aren't many! Perhaps the lesson to learn here is that I should give more concideration to how the final image will be presented when framing it in the viewfinder to start off with!
