Default More of a question...

Hey guys, I was wondering what you think of this shot.

Sun Pink Flower

Nikon D70s
Lens: 80-200mm F/2.8 D
Focal Length: 200mm
Exposure Mode: Manual
1/1250 sec - F/2.8
Sensitivity: ISO 320
White Balance: Auto

I think it was the white auto balance that gave it that flare look but I'm not sure. Just want your thoughts.

I like it a lot, actually! By the rules, you got every one right! Foreground in focus, background slightly blurry, points of interest on the intersections. And the whole package comes together to make a really appealing image.

I'm wondering what it might look like with a slightly lower ISO, just to make it a little darker? The flower in the foreground might be a little washed out.

IMHO I think you should adjust it so the entire flower becomes in focus while the back round is blurry. I Suggest a ND Filter or a diffrent aperture/shutter speed combo.

this doesnt apeal to me at all. it looks like way to much photoshop damage done to it. its like a lady with too much make up. maybe post the original and see what we can do with it.

Actually Fraggleroxer there has been no post production except a crop done! That's why I'm asking what I did to get a shot like this... whether it's good or bad

I would've also guessed it had been post processed... Sortof a weird color fringing that is making it look blurry. Was it shot it RAW or jpg? I'm also not sure the wide open aperture helped w the current composition. It's nice to use the shallow depth of field but when you have a huge bulb on the left side out of focus it throws the eye off.

huh... interesting. I'm right there with fraggleroxer. I thought it was photoshopped. My guesses:

- just a touch of camera shake
- lens possibly fogged
- I have no idea what else

It's an interesting effect, to be sure, but I wouldn't be scrambling to figure it out and duplicate it. But that's me.

very interesting. thanks for sharing.

thought it was photoshopped too :-)

did you use a flash with it or something - sort of looks like a slowsync effect or something. Very strange.

My guess is that the intensity of the flower colours overwhelmed the camera sensor. I have had similar effects on one or two of my flower pictures. Sometimes that can be repaired in the digital darkroom by turning the saturation down a notch or two. You don't want to make it look washed out but just enough to simulate the eye's natural compensation when it sees a subject like that in the wild.
