Default Silvermine: Beauty of Nature

These were taken during springtime in our local nature reserve, Silvermine. Waterfall, fynbos (Cape Peninsula indigenous flora), Pincushion flower, Sugarbird and some water images. Let me know what you think.

purplepixie,

I lost you in the shuffle! After starting back through, here are 5 more pieces of evidence you've been paying attention. You are posting better and better images, which I enjoy seeing (and pretending it's warm here). Based on subjects, #2 is my favored one, #5 not so much (is this actually 'pond scum?'). #5 is unusual for its foreground framing.

Hi JiminyC
Tx for the input
It's more like pond foam, but if it was left standing would turn into pond scum. Yes, I do enjoy photographing weird things - I believe there are beautiful shapes and colours in any scene.
If it makes you feel any better, our winter is rolling in rapidly, but surely not as cold as yours

purplepixie,

Foam; it's a stage thing, early on it's frothy and white. I learn every day.

We are a freak of Nature here, on our third winter this year. Hope yours is enjoyable. Does it cut down on critter availability?

I think I would also be pining for a bit of sun in your situation. But I usually enjoy winter time, love the rain. The critters do tend to hibernate, but we still have some birds around and the frogs come out. Oh, and of course: rain spiders - going to try and get a good photo this year

Can I ask what number 2 is? It looks like a flower but also has a bug feel. Good job capturing the detail. Did you try seeing if you could get the string thingeys as well in focus?

Christa: It's a Pincushion flower (kind of Protea) with a Humming Bird sucking nectar from it. I was using a narrow DOF on purpose - I like to highlight only centain areas with sharp focus, but I'm sure one could shoot with a wide DOF for clarity.
