Hi, just found this website. I'm pretty new to photography, have a lot to learn but I would like to hear some feedback. Thanks.

I have a Kodak EasyShare Z740 and I used the B&W feature on it.

If you're new to photography, you're off to a good start. The only suggestion I would have is to get the eyes more in focus. That's one of the main goals in taking portraits of both people and animals. Otherwise, great shot

Awwwww what a cutie!!

The thing that always surprised me about the Z740 is that concidering it has 10 x optical zoom that the pixels are only 5 million, be wary of using the 5 x digital zoom for zooming in on your portrait pictures. When I tested the Z740 at work I found that it really struggled on digital zoom to keep a crisp clear picture (but thats cos your not zooming in on your subject you zooming the photo). I wonder if thats what has happened here. Do you remember whether you went into digital zoom rather than optical? Some point and clicks are better at this than others.

Interestingly there are SLR camera's out there with a similar price tag. For example the canon 350D I use is £399 on amazon yet the Z740 is only about £60 cheaper.

If It were me (an I know your not me but) if you have had the camera less than 28 days I would be tempted to take it back and pay a little extra and get a digital SLR.

You would still get the point and click you get with your Kodak (as SLR's have the auto features) BUT when you get better, you can then expand into the creative modes, which you cant really do with the Kodak.

But what a darling!! so cute!

Dust_On_My_Wings,

Do you edit? Can you? This is a fine candidate for some tweaks, especially as mikem12188 pointed out, the eyes. The rest will be okay.

You know, I don't remember if I used to digital or optical. To be perfectly honest half the time (and I know this comes with more practice) I dont even look at the settings when I shoot her. She's so all over the place I'm lucky if I can get a picture at all.

As far as taking the camera back; I bought it off E-bay. Thanks for the suggestion though for my next upgrade!

Yep, I can edit! Not that skilled at it though, but I try. If anyone wants to, feel free to edit this! You can give me a head start.

And yes, unfortunatly, she ate the sand! Eh, it's fiber right?

I see you like to do portrait photography and with such a beautiful subject, I can see why! Try reading some of these tips on our sister site. You may find them helpful. http://digital-photography-school.co...t-photography/
Mikem12188 is right about focusing on the eyes. That is one thing you can do that will immediately improve your shots.
